A classic comfort food, this grilled cheese combines crispy bread with melted cheeses for a delicious snack or meal.

Ingredients

Bread

  • 2 slices sourdough bread
  • 1 tablespoon Mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 to 2 ounces grated sharp cheddar cheese (depending on bread size)
  • 1 to 2 ounces grated Gruyère or raclette cheese (depending on bread size)
  • as needed Butter for the pan

Instructions 

  • Spread mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice; flip one slice and spread Dijon mustard on the other side.
  • Layer cheeses on the mustard side, then top with the other bread slice, mayo side out.
  • Heat butter in a skillet over medium-low heat; cook the sandwich for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  • Flip the sandwich, cover, and cook for another 1-3 minutes until cheese melts and bread is golden.
  • Slice and serve hot.

Notes

Use a lid to help melt the cheese evenly and prevent burning.
