Ingredients

For the Baked Apples

  • 6 medium baking apples (*Recommende)
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.125 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.33 cup dried cranberries (or raisins)
  • 3 Tbsp unsalted butter, cut into 6 pieces
  • 0.25 cup finely chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1 cup hot water

To Serve (Optional)

  • Unsweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
  • Caramel sauce (try our homemade caramel sauce recipe)

Instructions 

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; stir in cranberries.
  • Core apples, leaving ½ inch at the bottom; stuff with sugar mixture, top with butter, and sprinkle walnuts if using.
  • Pour hot water into dish; bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour until tender.

Notes

Use firm apples like Jonagold or Braeburn for best results.
