Ingredients

Pie Crust

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1.25 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.75 cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 egg yolks beaten egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 0.25 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional Garnish

  • Chocolate curls (optional)

Instructions 

  • Bake and cool the pie crust.
  • In a bowl, melt butter and chocolate chips together; set aside.
  • Whisk sugar, cornstarch, cocoa, and salt in a saucepan. Gradually add milk and cook until thickened, about 1 minute.
  • Temper egg yolks with hot custard, then return to saucepan and cook 1 more minute. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, then strain over melted chocolate and butter. Cool and pour into crust. Chill for 4 hours or overnight.
  • Whip heavy cream with vanilla and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Spread over chilled pie and garnish with chocolate curls if desired.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use high-quality chocolate and fresh vanilla extract.
