A hearty and cheesy baked casserole combining ground beef, potatoes, and cheddar cheese, perfect for a comforting family meal.

Ingredients

Meat and Onion

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 finely diced yellow onion yellow onion

Potatoes

  • 4 pounds russet potatoes (peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch pieces)

Cheese and Canned Goods

  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • One 10.75 ounce can can condensed cheddar soup
  • One 12 ounce can can evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Seasonings

  • to taste Kosher salt Kosher salt
  • to taste Black pepper freshly ground black pepper

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
  • Cook ground beef and diced onion in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned; drain excess fat.
  • Layer sliced potatoes, seasoned with salt and pepper, then add 1/4 of beef mixture and cheese; repeat layers three more times.
  • Mix condensed soup, evaporated milk, milk, and garlic powder; pour over layers.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes, then remove foil and bake 15 more minutes until golden and bubbling.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a sprinkle of paprika or chopped herbs before baking.
